DESIGN FOR AUTHENTIC LIVING

We create environments that reduce friction, support well-being and make space for who you are by nature.

DESIGN WITHOUT
FRICTION

Like a sculptor revealing the form already present within the clay of life, we believe thoughtful design begins by removing what interferes, revealing what belongs, and adding what is needed to support the evolution taking shape within.

REMOVE. REVEAL. SUPPORT.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Meet Shannon Faye, Founder + Principal Designer

Shannon Faye designs for what becomes possible when we treat resistance as information.

Her process begins where something isn’t quite working—physically, functionally, or emotionally—and asks what that friction is here to reveal. Rather than choosing this or that, she looks for the thoughtful this and that: transforming resistance into useful design that allows your authentic lifestyle to flow with greater ease, freedom, and room to grow.

BEYOND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

A story about two dogs. A philosophy about being human.

It began, as some of the best stories do, with two dogs.

Two wonderfully different souls finding their way through a world that doesn’t always make room for difference—and discovering along the way that belonging was never about becoming more alike.

It was about having permission to be exactly who they already are.

Z, a Catahoula hound mix, paddling a red canoe across a mountain lake in Paradise, California.

Perhaps that is why their story feels so familiar.

We spend so much of our lives learning how to fit into spaces, relationships, families, and expectations that were shaped before we arrived.

But what if belonging was never about learning to fit?

What if we already have a place that only we can fill—and the more we change ourselves to belong, the further we move from it?

Perhaps belonging begins when we stop trying to become what the world expects, and give ourselves—and one another—permission to be exactly who we are.

But there is a little more to their story than it first appears.

What looks like a simple story about two dogs quietly unfolds into a series of actionable steps—small things we can actually do to better understand ourselves, navigate change, make choices, and find our way back when life pulls us off course.

Each step builds upon the one before it. And together, they become something much more powerful: a tool for learning how to navigate life as the person you prefer to be.

For young readers, that tool becomes part of the toolbox they carry forward—helping them build self-awareness, resilience, and a stronger foundation for the adults they will someday become.

For adults, it offers a pathway to rediscover who we are now—because the person we were ten, twenty, or thirty years ago may not be the person standing in front of the mirror in this chapter of our lives.

And that is where their story becomes part of ours.

At 1122 Designs, we don’t believe meaningful design begins with a style.

It begins with understanding the person who will live there.

What restores you. What energizes you. How you connect. What you value. What you’ve outgrown. What you need now. And what this chapter of your life is asking of the environment around you.

The more clearly we understand ourselves, the richer the design conversation becomes. Instead of creating a space around who we think we should be, we can create one that genuinely supports how we live, grow, connect, rest, and thrive.

The story helps us discover who we are.
We design the environment to support who we discover.

And when those two things come together, design becomes more than something we see.

It becomes something we can live.
